Conclusions drawn from the above: 1. There are a shit load of musical prizes out there and this chick has won most of them. 2. To leave a bequest in the form of a musical scholarship or grant one has to have a pretty funky name. 3. If this were some sort of qualification-based pissing competition with other labels, we'd win hands down. Seriously, that guy out of the Decemberists, what's he got? Some piddly little degree in creative writing and he's the poster child of intellectual rock?! No more, my speccy man, no more! Du Yun, could probably take him in a fight, to boot. Don't be scared. Come back! There are several more pages of achievements we could lay down here for you, but we're not going to. To paraphrase a little - it ain't what you got, it's what you do with it. For all her fancy-pants qualifications, Du Yun produces perfectly formed accessible pop music. If forced at gun-point to bandy vague adjectives around, we'd use words like 'electronic', 'soulful', 'sexy', 'jazz-inflected', 'bilingual', 'crisply produced', 'blip-poppy' and 'evocative'. We could go at some length here [go figure!], but frankly the demos we've received so far outstrip our ability to adequately verbalize the emotional response they generate. And that's just the demos! Simply put, download one of Du Yun's tunes for yourself and write your own list of superlatives. Then send it to us, we could do with the inspiration. Du Yun is currently living and writing in New York City. She will be recording and mastering the material right here in the good old People's Republic over the summer. Look for a release on your new favourite record label (uhhh…guess that's Tag Team) sometime in the latter half of the year. |

[apologies to Colin Meloy. We love you, man, but, seriously, enough with the chimney sweeps.] |
