jrg_one is Jackson Garland, a bassist and electro-acoustic musician who has been performing and producing music in Beijing since 2003. As a member of the genre-bending space-rock group RandomK(e) and bluegrass band The Redbucks, he has been concocting all shapes of music and sonic arsenals on stages in Beijing and across China for years. Garland has been featured as a solo performer multiple times at Yan Jun’s weekly Waterland Kwanyin music series, D-22’s Zoomin’ experimental music nights, has performed at the Dashanzi International Art Festival, the Mini-Midi stage at the Midi Festival, and has opened for heady laptop-rock group Lonely China Day on numerous occasions. He was also a member of rock group Handsome Black before they went belly up in the Great Crash of 2005.

jrg_one’s music reaches out from the hidden spaces between spaces to assault listeners ears with dark ambient dronescapes that sound like haunted, creaking journeys through the dream world. Fuzzed-out thick synth tones and layered rhythmic beats, punctuated by bursts of shimmering noise and ethereal incandescent haze, rise from dark organic and electronic subterranean textures. “Slim Charles vs. Carl Sagan” makes use of extensive programming, prepared samples, field recordings, and live vocal and instrument looping.
